Zastron is named after Johanna Sibella Brand nee Zastron, the wife of President Brand of the Orange Free State. Vulture Lodge
A beautiful lodge in the southern Free State town of Zastron, named in honour of the numerous Cape Vultures that used to inhabit the area. The lodge is at the foot of the Aasvoelberg, the mountain of the vultures, given that name because of a large natural bridge in the mountain which ressembles the eye of a vulture. The hole is also attributed in local legend, to the stupidity of the Devil who, mistaking the mountain for his enemy, struck it with his fist.
