Mont Orgeuil Castle at Gorey Mont Orgeuil is a 13th century castle situated at Gorey in Jersey, Channel Islands.The vast edifice which is know in Jersey French as lé Vièr Châté (the Old Castle) is built on a prehisatoric hill site overlooking the harbour and was contructed over several centuries. First record of the castle was made in 1212 following the division of the Duchy of Normandy in 1204. The castle played a significant role in the defense of the Island against French invasion and was a prestige development for Sir Walter Raleigh who was Governer of Jersey in 1600.
